Why the Shelby 289 Cobra is more fun to drive than a 427 Cobra

Why the Shelby 289 Cobra is more fun to drive than a 427 Cobra
That GTO has ran 12.20s after this show aired.
A 1987 GNX would blow away most cars on the road today.
Did anyone place the 427 Cammer in the Shelby..?
This and the LaFerrari ❤
Simply DeLuxe 💋
minimum wage back then was around one dollar per hour. that is why it sounds so cheap.
This guy is BADASS
The weirdest thing about AMG cars to me, it seems like the faster you go, the smoother, more precise the car feels.
All of these cars were designed to raced on streets accross the the two countries first.
Remember all the shootouts! Thanks for the backstory!
I was a young 20 year old Sailor stationed in Naval Air Station Jacksonville in Jacksonville Florida. It was late 1979 or early 1980 and the parking lot was still filled with muscle cars from the late 60’s through the 1970’s. When the Commanding officer is a car guy and he buys a 1964 Stingray, well it only behooves the Junior Officers to buy sports cars too. Our Commanding Officer loved to do benefit runs with the sports car club he was in so almost overnight the car club the CO was in had 25 or 30 new applicants. E type Jaguars, early big block Mustangs, Tri-Power GTO’s, you name it and it was in our parking lot. These were daily drivers. The CO drove his Stingray to work so the Junior Officers did the same. The car that stood out the most in my memory because it was the first “REAL’ one I had ever looked over was a 65 289 Cobra. AS A DAILY DRIVER! Of course in 1979 they weren’t worth nearly as much as they are today but it was still a rare car.
What a car !
Beautiful
Decent video, can we see the rest of it ?
Yep Ron just click "created from" or search "The car that shouldn't exist" on our RUclips channel
Great episode friends
I love the Chevy Nova, such a cool body style. I’d imagine this one is worth a fortune.
Don’t forget that the Ford 289 also powered the Ford GT!
Old Corvettes are nice too look at but not like a new modern one .Owned a few but they do not drive or r I dr like a new modern Corvette.
Why would you think it wouldn’t exist? He has the proof🤔🧐
Tom,the voice of reason.
The car does exist because there's a whole bunch of them and they produced over 270 of them in 1970 but the issue was GM was going through an issue a legal issue and they weren't supposed to have been producing certain cars because of some act law that was being passed due to Biden believe it or not and Nancy pelosi and all the other ones where had a deal with emission compliance bullshit so basically they went under the radar of not being showing in the system from the factory being produced but they were produced
Biden wasn’t in office in 1970. He didn’t enter office until 1973. Although this certainly sounds like something he would do.
The Rambler S/C belongs to my buddy Jeff. This was filmed before I met him, but he told me about how he loaned the Rambler to Peter for this episode/testing.
Wow what’s it worth
I miss Tom too.
Back in the days of my 1969 Olds 442, if someone told me I would now be driving a stock C8 Corvette that runs 0 to 60 in less than 3 seconds, does 1/4 mile nearly 11 seconds flat, has a top speed over 190 mph, and gets 30 mpg on the interstate, I would say they are full of BS. These sure are the days. Thanks for the video. Sure miss your show and the Speed Channel.
I can’t EVER watch Peter and not totally enjoy the content ,just the most sincere and knowledgeable fun host, makes you smile the whole time.
Is it a COPO ?
A Phase III Motion car came with an 11.50 guarantee. A 13.41 on street tires is off. The GTO was spot on. The Super Bee was off as well. The Shelby was about right, the Yenko clearly needed sorted out. The Scrambler was off a touch. Those cars were super light and launched nasty with dome stuckier tires. The lack of killer torque out of the hole meant you needed to slightly spin while moving off the line because once moving, they just needed to breath on top.
Nostalgia as a word also includes a certain pain (nostos and algos). I truly felt that watching this. I always looked forward to this program - a great combination of fun, funny, skill, and learning each week. Thanks for the memories, and all the work you continue to put out here. ~ Chuck
I remember these shows... Had a '67 Fairlane XL 289 4V 4 Speed console front discs in high school
Being a Pontiac fan and owning 3 of them, yes I am biased here, despite all the cars are truly awesome its nice to see the Poncho show its true colors. For all you Pontiac doubters, the numbers dont lie!
Thanks guys for the walk down memory lane. This deal is very entertaining.
Dale Sr. asked me for some help to jump off his truck way back in the day 1993. I was working as a Bellman for a "Ritzy" Hotel in Jackson,Ms <Ramada Plaza> and I didn't know who he was at that time.
Stage 1 GS Buick would roast them all
Yep,great as always Guys but sure miss you're friend Tom. Poncho power wins!
A few years back, I recall reading articles about the '427' badging not necessarily meaning the Cobra had an actual 427 under the hood as engine shortages at Ford led to the venerable 428 being substituted. The insinuation, apparently, was that the body was named '427'. To me, the thought of a street Cobra without a hood scoop or side pipes or roll bar and a milder 428 under the hood is actually quite a nice alternative as a replica than the usual boy-racer-looking beast with a 427 side-oiler and pain-in-the-#$% Weber carb setup.
Great drag race video - about 10 years ago we did a 1/4 mile test in our 1970 L78 SS396 Chevelle. We were happy running 13.40 in 85 degree weather ruclips.net/video/fp0IlenNJho/видео.htmlsi=RxA-JloUhY6hm1hN
Peter always seems so happy when talking about cars! Liv’in the dream buddy! Keep up the great content!

Being a Baby Bòomer the '59 Caddy was not popular. In the 60's, they sold cheap. Cars in the èarly 60's looked slimmer and more squared.
